No question they are not in the same league. The basic principle is
the same, though. The original suggestion was basically, "Don't buy
bootleg CDs of the first three albums just because KW won't authorize
reissues, because you don't have the 'right' to own CDs of all their albums."

That's a very true statement, but realistically, don't hold your
breath waiting for the teeming millions to suffer an attack of
conscience and forswear buying bootlegs of music/movies/TV shows that
they can't get via legitimate channels (my loose moral interpretation
in these cases doesn't apply to anyone who bootlegs copies of
music/movies/TV shows which ARE available via legitimate channels;
drastic situations justify drastic measures :-) ). Similarly don't
hold your breath expecting human beings (especially horny USAnian
teenagers) to develop strictly orthodox "Christian" consciences and
stop f*cking outside of the bounds of holy matrimony. The history of
the human species makes it abundantly clear that neither (forswearing
illicit entertainment media and forswearing illicit sex) is gonna happen.

And I say this as the owner of the bootlegs of "Kraftwerk",
"Kraftwerk 2", and "Ralf und Florian", as well as bootleg DVDs of the
TV series "Quark" and "The Green Hornet". In my defense, I'll say is
that in the event these products are ever given authorized CD/DVD
releases I'll *immediately* shell out money for the legit copies and
destroy my bootlegs. The only reason I've resorted to the bootleg
route here is to complete my collection of certain media where
authorized copies simply aren't available; if authorized copies were
available I'd happily pay out my simoleons to the folks marketing them.

Cheers,

LRC
